Juris Conferences Third Annual Asian Leading Arbitrators' Symposium on the Conduct of
International Arbitration

"ADR in Asia Conference: “Arbitration & Mediation – Global Platforms for Dispute Resolution"

The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre in conjunction with Hong Kong Corporate Counsel Association will be holding once again a one-day conference on Friday, 12 September 2008 devoted to effective arbitration and mediation in resolving disputes. One of the topics to be discussed at the conference is the issue of “Negotiation and Drafting of International and Domestic Dispute Resolution Provisions”.

2008 General Membership Meeting

On July 1, 2008 PDRCI held its annual General Membership Meeting at the Linden Suites, Pasig City. The event was attended by the Board of Trustees and Officers of PDRCI, headed by its Chairman, Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban (Ret.), as well as the majority of the members. Atty. Eduardo R. Ceniza, PDRCI President, reported to the members the activities and accomplishments of the Center for the period of June 2007 to June 2008. He also administered the oath of the new members and PDRCI Trained Arbitrators. Atty. Victor P. Lazatin, PDRCI 2nd Vice-Chairman, also gave a brief lecture on the development of the ADR Implementing Rules and Regulations and the ADR Special Rules of Court to update the members on the development of arbitration in the country. The Board of Trustees for the year 2008-2009 were also elected during the meeting.

PDRCI and IAMA Signing of Memorandum of Co-operation

On October 12, 2007 the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI) and Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators of Australia (IAMA) signed a Memorandum of Co-operation at the Peninsula Makati Hotel to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations. Signing the agreement were Atty. Eduardo R. Ceniza, PDRCI President, and Mr. Andrew Robertson, IAMA National Councilor, witnessed by Amb. Sedfrey A. Ordoñez, PDRCI Chairman and Atty. Miguel B. Varela, PDRCI Vice-Chairman. Also present during the meeting were the Board of Trustees and Officers of PDRCI.

Meeting with CIETAC Delegates

On 26 June 2007, Mr. Eduardo R. Ceniza, President of PDRCI, hosted the luncheon meeting of the Board of Trustees in honor of its guests from the Chinese International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC).

The CIETAC delegation composed of Mr. Chen Min, Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Wang Yingmin, Case Administrator and Ms. Wei Ziping, Case Administrator. The two groups discussed the state of arbitration in both countries and some of the procedures of arbitration in the Philippines.

2006 PDRCI GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

31 July 2006 - The General Membership Meeting of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI) was recently concluded on 24 July 2006 which was held at the Brasserie Restaurant, Security Bank Center, Ayala Avenue, Makati City. In spite of the bad weather caused by typhoon Glenda which lead most businesses to declare a non-working day, a good number of the members where still able to attend the said meeting.

INTERACTION BETWEEN THE COURTS AND ARBITRAL TRIBUNAL

18 November 2005 - The Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI) and The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators East Asia Branch (CI Arb), in association with USAID and The Asia Foundation, successfully concluded the seminar “Interaction Between Courts and Arbitral Tribunals” which was held at the Discovery Suites, Pasig City, Philippines.
