2006 PDRCI GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

- The General Membership Meeting of the Philippine Dispute Resolution
Center, Inc. (PDRCI) was recently concluded on 24 July 2006 which was
held at the Brasserie Restaurant, Security Bank Center, Ayala Avenue,
Makati City. In spite of the bad weather caused by typhoon Glenda
which lead most businesses to declare a non-working day, a good number
of the members where still able to attend the said meeting.
The meeting was started with the President welcoming the attendees. He
then proceeded in reporting on the accomplishments and activities of
the Center during the fiscal year. Some of the accomplishments of the
Center were the approval and adoption of the New Arbitration Rules and
Administrative Guidelines of the Center and the publication of the
first handbook on commercial arbitration in the country. The
Center also conducted and sponsored a number of seminars and
conferences together with various organizations and institutions which
included The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch), The
Asia Foundation, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
Philippine Institute of Construction Arbitrators, ICC Philippines,
Management Association of the Philippines, Construction Industry and
Arbitration Commission and the Philippine Judicial Academy.
The meeting then proceeded with the short lectures on arbitration and
mediation. The first lecturer was Prof. Mario E. Valderrama,
PDRCI Deputy Secretary General, who gave a presentation on the
“The Role of National Courts in International
Arbitration”. He was followed by Engr. Salvador P. Castro,
Jr., Chairman, Mediation Committee, PDRCI, who lectured on the
“Evolution of Mediation, Contemporary Trends and Prospects
– The Philippine Experience.”
After the lectures, the members proceeded in confirming all acts of the
Board and elected the new Board of Trustees. The following
members were elected members of the Board of Trustees for the fiscal
year 2006-2007:
